Comedian Dan Nainan was arrested for assault after allegedly punching a Washington journalist whose tweets he found offensive, the New York Daily News reported.
Daily Beast journalist Josh Rogin, 34, was not impressed with Nainan's performance at DC Improv on Wednesday evening and updated his Twitter followers of his thoughts.
"Dan Nainan was funny until he dusted off his 2005 Katrina jokes in a gratingly bad (George W. Bush) impression," Rogin said.
"Dan Nainan makes his umpteenth joke about how Asians (can't) distinguish between letters 'L' and 'R.' Election, erection we get it," he wrote in another post.
After the comedian discovered the critical tweets from Rogin's account, which has over 30,000 followers, he searched the club -- which was hosting the "Funniest Celebrity in Washington" contest -- and approached the journalist.
"Dan Nainan comes over to me and says, 'Are you Josh Rogin?'" he recalled. "I said yes and then he punched me in the jaw."
Rogin took to his Twitter account directly after the first punch.
"Dan Nainan just punched me in the face. Not a joke," he wrote.
The comedian left Rogin's table after the first punch but allegedly returned for more, hitting him one more time. After security guards pulled him out of the club, police officers arrived and arrested him for assault.
According to an email the Washington Post received, Nainan denies Rogin's accusations despite witness accounts saying otherwise.
"I didn't think I was being too harsh with him," Rogin told the Washington Post. "He's a professional comedian, and I was being a professional journalist."
Despite the incident, he doesn't regret attending the event.
"I felt that it was an unfortunate distraction from an otherwise good event," he added.
