The New York Daily News enjoyed the sequel:
"In "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2," Barry the Berry, perfect in design and simplicity, gives a scene-stealing, nonsense-language speech to his fellow sentient fruits, vegetables and meats. Anyone who doesn't laugh is allergic to fun.
"Barry is just one of dozens of creative, pun-tastic "foodimals" in this bright and engaging sequel that's no mere pile of leftovers. This is unquestionably 2013's best animated movie so far."
Boston Herald was not impressed:
"A follow-up to the surprise 2009 hit from Dartmouth grads Phil Lord and Chris Miller and based on the 1978 children's book by Judi and Ron Barrett, this installment, directed by Cody Cameron ('Open Season 3') and animator Kris Pearn ('Open Season 2'), is mostly the same movie, but not as funny, and with a song by Paul McCartney. I think I laughed out loud once."
The Washington Posts says the film will provide your family with "juicy laughs:"
"This sequel will provide juicy laughs for kids 6 and older, their parents and older siblings. Set after the end of the first film, this new adventure finds Flint, TV meteorologist Sam, Flint's macho dad Tim, his mischievous monkey, Steve, and all his other pals still pondering the disastrous spaghetti tornado that befell their town of Swallow Falls. Now, while the cleanup continues, Flint hears from Chester V, a scientist whom Flint idolizes, that some of the food on the island has come alive."
