Taylor Swift joins Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges and Katie Holmes in the upcoming film adaptation, “The Giver”.
True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard, The Odd Life of Timothy Green's Odeya Rush and Cameron Monaghan of Shameless also will also star in adaptation, according to The Hollywood Reporter:
The film, an adaptation of the popular young adult novel by Lois Lowry, stars Thwaites as a young boy who is selected for life service as the Receiver of Memories. He works with The Giver (Bridges), an old man who teaches the boy to use his sensory gifts.
Streep will play the antagonistic Chief Elder, who assigns the young their tasks, in the film about a society in which there is no sickness, conflict or racism.
Holmes will play Thwaites' character's mother.
The movie role would be the second for Swift. She had a small part in the film “Valentine’s Day” alongside her former flame “Twilight” star Taylor Lautner.
“Sources said that Swift was offered a supporting role by Harvey Weinstein in Toronto when she hit town for the premiere of ‘One Chance,’ for which she wrote the song ‘Sweeter Than Fiction’ with Jack Antonoff of fun,” Page Six reports.
The movie will reportedly start filming on Oct. 4 in Cape Town, South Africa, and is set to be released in theaters on Aug. 15, 2014.
Actress Jennifer Lawrence also recently landed a role in the new movie adaptation of John Steinbeck's East of Eden. Deadline.com reports the actress will play Cathy Ames, "the cold and cruel mother of the boys and estranged wife of the farmer."
Lawrence will re-joins her "Hunger Games" director Gary Ross, who is directing the new film. Lawrence is currently in Atlanta, GA. filming the third installment of the “Hunger Games” series. The second film “Catching Fire” hits theaters on Nov. 22.
