Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Kiko Alonso's ACL was deemed intact by Dr. James Andrews, and he will play again this season, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport.
Alonso reportedly had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and could play in a few weeks, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. He first injured his knee in week two against the Dallas Cowboys. The major concern was that it was the same knee Alonso tore last season while playing for the Buffalo Bills.
Alonso was a standout rookie linebacker who recorded 159 tackles, two sacks, and four interceptions in 2013. The Eagles traded LeSean McCoy for Alonso, and they will likely need his productivity on the field if they are to compete in the NFC East.
The Eagles will play the Washington Redskins this weekend without Alonso, and it may be some time before he returns to the field. They got their first win this past week against the New York Jets, 24-17.
The Philadelphia offense will need to produce points this season, especially with their defense being banged up. Every team in the NFC East is a game behind the Dallas Cowboys, but the Cowboys are without both Tony Romo and Dez Bryant due to injuries. The NFC East looks like it will be a closely fought division, and the return of Alonso to the Eagles could give them a boost down the stretch.
