Carlos Santana, the legendary "Black Magic Woman" guitarist, found himself in the midst of a death hoax on Tuesday, USA Today reported. Rumors of his death circulated on social media after a Canadian journalist mistakenly announced the musician's death, but his reps have confirmed that Santana is indeed alive and well.
"Completely false," his rep, Michael Jensen, told USA Today of the rumors. "He is alive and well and enjoying his morning!"
Santana's team also posted a short message to the musician's official Facebook page to alert fans as well.
"From Team Santana: Carlos is alive and well and enjoying his morning! Thank you all for your concern, but the reports of his passing are false," the Facebook statement read.
Chris Walker, a Canadian journalist for the morning radio show CBC Kelowna mistakenly tweeted out the information of Santana's death, according to CBS News. The reporter announced the false information via Twitter and wrote, "Family member found Carlos Santana deceased in his car last night, says source."
The tweet has since been deleted and Walker issued an apology shortly after.
"I unreservedly apologize for previous tweets regarding Carlos Santana," Walker tweeted. "Wrong to rely on single source, and against CBC policy besides."
The false alarm was a jolt for Santana's daughter, musician Stella Santana. She replied to Walker's initial tweet that sparked the hoax to set the record straight.
"@ChrisWalkerCBC not true," Stella tweeted. "Texting with him now but thanks for ruining my day."
Santana is still performing and fans can catch the guitar legend on Nov. 4, as part of his residency at House of Blues at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
