Shortly after introducing the dislike button, Facebook is moving its focus to profile pictures, which are viewed more than four billion times per day. On Wednesday, the company introduced three new features: profile videos, temporary pics and featured photos.
"Today, we're starting to test the next step in an obvious evolution of profiles: profile videos. Soon, you'll be able to film a short, looping video clip that will play for anyone who visits your profile. Profile videos will let show a part of yourself you couldn't before, and add a new dimension to your profile," Facebook wrote in a blog post.
Aside from the 7-second videos, users will soon be allowed to set a temporary profile pic that will automatically change depending on the specified date. Users can also select five featured photos that will be pinned on the top of their profile, allowing people to have an idea on their identities before sending friend requests. Profile pics can also be moved to the center of the page and be made larger using some tools that will be added in the social networking app, reported TechCrunch.
To clarify things, Facebook users are not allowed to upload GIFs, they have to create their own video, which will function like a GIF once uploaded. Facebook has prepared a tutorial, which can be found at the top of the account, according to Mashable.
Testing of these new profile features are currently available to iPhone users in the United Kingdom and California, but will be rolled out soon to other areas.
