Four weeks have gone by since the college football season started. While Leonard Fournette may be the clear frontrunner for the Heisman at this point, three other young men are showing why they belong in the discussion. These three may not have been as hyped as other players coming into the season, but they are showing that they are definitely Heisman sleepers.
Kyle Allen, Texas A&M - The Aggies sophomore quarterback has led his team to a 4-0 start, beating teams like Arizona State, Nevada and Arkansas. In four games so far this season Allen has thrown for 952 yards with 11 touchdowns. He's also rushed for 71 yards and two touchdowns. The sophomore quarterback may not have been on the Heisman watch list coming into the season, but people are definitely looking now. Allen and the Aggies have a huge matchup with SEC opponent Mississippi State, and if he has a big game and a win he will likely continue to become a big part of the Heisman discussion. Quarterbacks that can get it done in the SEC are likely seen as greater because of the degree of difficulty playing against college football's top defenses.
Paul Perkins, UCLA - The Bruins junior running back isn't coming out of nowhere, as he had a productive season last year with more than 1,500 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. But many didn't expect him to explode onto the college football scene as he has this year. Perkins has already rushed for more than 500 yards and has six touchdowns through four games. Last week against the Arizona Wildcats, Perkins scored three touchdowns and will try to duplicate that performance against Arizona State Saturday. The Bruins are undefeated through four games this season and look like they could be one of the frontrunners in the Pac-12 South. If UCLA continues to win big Pac-12 games, and Perkins continues to produce as he has, there is no doubt he will be in the Heisman discussion come late November.
