A 78-year-old Indian man has the longest fingernails on one hand, the Guinness Book of World Records revealed last week.
Shridhar Chillal, a resident of western Indian city of Pune, has been growing nails on his left hand for 62 years, reported Buzzfeed. Now, his fingernails are a cumulative 358.1 inches (nearly 30 feet).
The GWR featured him in its 2016 edition and gave him the title of the longest fingernails on a single hand ever.
"His dedication has paid off since he is officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the person with the longest fingernails on a single hand ever. Guinness World Records officials took a trip to Shridar's home in Maharashtra, India, to perform an adjudication of the record, along with a photoshoot of the record-holder," the world records body said in a statement on Sept. 29.
Chillal said that he had faced lot of difficulties in the initial days. His family was against his decision to grow nails.
"First our family members opposed, then teachers were opposed but I decided from that point on that I would never cut my nails again," Chillal said, according to the Daily Mail.
"Initially, difficulties appeared everywhere in my daily life. My family really didn't like it, no one would wash my clothes and I had to wash them by hand. Finding a job was also difficult, as no one was ready to employ me," he said.
"When I was to get married, no one was ready to marry me, I saw nearly 10 to 12 girls. If the girl agreed to marry, her parents would say I would strangle their daughter's neck and refuse. If the parents agreed, the girl would say she would not marry such a dirty person," he added. He also said that he is planning to cut his fingernails to preserve in a museum.
