Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte could be traded this season as the team has started winless, and has shown no immediate signs of a turnaround, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.
The Bears have already made big moves this week. First they traded star pass rusher Jared Allen to the Carolina Panthers, and then they traded linebacker and former second-round pick Jonathan Bostic to the New England Patriots.
Although the Bears likely won't say they are rebuilding for down the road, it surely seems that way. Chicago's season didn't start off well when their first round rookie draft pick Kevin White needed surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left shin.
Forte has actually been one of the only positives for the Bears this season. Forte is averaging 4.7 yards per carry and has 276 rushing yards this season. While Forte has only seen the endzone once, their offense doesn't really put him in position to score as they have trouble moving the ball down the field.
Forte turns 30 next season, and he is in the final year of his contract. Forte is one of the last remaining tradable commodities on the Bears roster, but he is also one of their best players.
The cost for Forte will likely be steep, as he is one of the most consistently dominant running backs in the NFL, though teams tend to become concerned with age and running backs, because they worry the speed or explosiveness isn't there anymore. Forte carries a $7 million salary this season, and it seems likely that only a team with playoff aspirations would be willing to trade for him.
