Let's answer the one question that's been on every "Castle" fan's mind since last week - Are Castle and Beckett headed for divorce?
"Nobody's getting divorced. They're not splitting up forever," co-showrunner Alexi Hawley told The Hollywood Reporter. "This is an obstacle in the way that is going to make them ultimately stronger as a couple once they get through it."
Whew! Well that's a load off.
At the end of the two-part season premiere, Beckett (Stana Katic) told Castle (Nathan Fillion) that she needed to take some time away from their marriage to get her head straight. What she couldn't tell him was she needed the space to keep him safe as she pursues the dangerous LOCKSAT, the partner of the late Senator Bracken.
By finding LOCKSAT, Beckett hopes to satisfy an obsession in her heart that has existed since her mother's death and didn't go away even after she locked up Bracken for the murder.
"Beckett is this realization that this injustice in her isn't just tied to Bracken. Her DNA changed when her mother was killed and she started on this journey. Her hope is by pursuing it and seeing it through, she can break that cycle and then be happily ever after," Hawley said.
But while it took six seasons (and many more years) for Beckett to bring her mother's murderer to justice, she'll work as quickly as possible to bring down her latest foe so she can get back to her life with Castle.
"She wants to get this over as quick as possible because she wants to get back to her husband," co-showrunner Terence Paul Winter said. "It's about how can we get through this thing and how can we find out what's really behind all the things that happened in the first two episodes. Beckett is working her tail off to try to get back to Castle."
Castle may be in the dark on why Beckett walked out so abruptly, but he knows the only way to win her back is the same way he captured her heart in the first place - by solving cases together.
"He finds a way to worm his way into her cases," Winter said [See Castle's first trick in a sneak peek below]. "What ends up happening is, of course, we get to a place where Castle and Beckett are building theory together, figuring out who's behind whatever the murder of the week is. We get to see little pieces of that electricity we haven't gotten to see for awhile now. We get to see them really fighting for this closeness they can't take for granted anymore."
So hold on "Castle" fans. It's going to be a bumpy but still fun ride.
"Castle" airs on Mondays at 10 p.m. on ABC.
