Previously, Warner Bros. had tabbed "The Lego Movie" directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller to write and possibly direct a big-screen adaptation of "The Flash" for the studio's growing DC Extended Universe. While the duo did write a treatment for the film, they quickly departed the project after being offered every fanboy's dream job in Disney/Lucasfilm's planned Han Solo standalone film.
Now, The Hollywood Reporter claims that "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" writer Seth Grahame-Smith has been chosen to write and direct the DCEU entry.
Grahame-Smith's previous credits include the screenplays for "Dark Shadows," "Beetlejuice 2" and the upcoming "The Lego Batman Movie," making him familiar with the inner workings of Warner Bros. and DC to a certain degree. Grahame-Smith also directed two episodes of the short-lived TV series "The Hard Time of RJ Berger."
Ezra Miller ("The Perks of Being a Wallflower") has already been cast as the Central City speedster. The solo film is set for release on March 3, 2018, while The Flash character is expected to make his debut in some form or another in either "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" or "Suicide Squad" next year.
DC Entertainment already has a popular "The Flash" TV series on The CW, though Warner Bros. has stated that its television and film universes are separate.
