The wait is finally over.
After years of waiting, and tens of thousands begging for it, McDonald's is finally offering its breakfast menu to customers 24/7. Now customers will be able to eat their favorite item off the breakfast menu at whatever time they please.
Starting Tuesday, more than 14,300 McDonald's restaurants in the U.S. will be offering breakfast all day, reported Fox News, officially doing away with the original breakfast hours that ended at 10:30 a.m.
Despite the challenges presented from having the sheer number of restaurants adjust schedules to accommodate the new 24/7 menu, the franchise faced an even greater challenge: equipment. Since the stores have varying kitchen layouts and equipment packages based on volume, unit age and location, unique equipment had to be developed for specific restaurants, according to The Christian Science Monitor.
Many stores got a new egg cooker that can make a dozen eggs at a time for muffin sandwiches, while others have gotten larger grills to accommodate the increased amount of food they would be producing. Because of the equipment needed on a per-store basis, the costs ranged to as little as $500 to as much as $5,000.
One thing to note, however, is that while breakfast will be offered all day, customers won't have access to the entire breakfast menu all day.
"Depending on the local market, All Day Breakfast will have a limited menu that focuses on either McMuffin or Biscuit items," McDonald's explained, according to Boy Genius Report. "This decision is made at the local level based on customer preference."
