The bloodied jacket of missing University of Minnesota student Anarae Schunk was discovered in an apartment owned by her former boyfriend's ex-wife, CBS News reported.
The girl's brother, Tyson, said investigators also found a knife connected to the case on the roof of the apartment complex in St. Paul where the jacket was obtained.
In addition to blood, there were punctured holes throughout the coat as well.
"Burnsville police have ... obtained several items of evidence in connection with this matter ... which has led us to believe that Anarae Schunk may have been the victim of a homicide," Sgt. Jeff Witte said in a press release.
Schunk, 20, has been missing since Sept. 22 and has not been seen since leaving Nina's Grill in Burnsville with her ex-boyfriend, Shavelle Oscar Chavez-Nelson, and his current girlfriend, Ashley Conrade, 24.
Nelson, 31, has already been charged with murdering 23-year-old Palagor Obang Jobi outside of the same restaurant on the last day Schunk was seen. He is currently being held on $2 million bail and refuses to discuss details of the case, CBS reported.
According to the Star Tribune, local police have told the Schunk family they believe their daughter is dead.
Law enforcement authorities, friends, family, and volunteers have continued to perform searches along the Mississippi River and near Highway 46.
A Facebook page was also created to aid the search for the missing student, where her family said in a post that the website will work as the main source of communication to the public regarding any information about the case.
A report by the Pioneer Press explores Nelson's long history of run-ins with the law, including selling drugs, snatching purses, auto theft, and robbing an apartment at gunpoint.
One judge even referred to him as a "frightening and disturbing young man."
Derik Fettig, a law school teaching fellow at Hamline University, said when an offender such as Nelson is associated with a violent crime after second chances in sentencing, "it's hard not to look back and second-guess."
