Many were shocked to learn that troubled star Amanda Bynes was moved from UCLA Medical Center, where she was being treated for severe mental illness to a rehab facility in in Malibu. How long will she will be staying and why was she been moved?
Bynes's notoriously odd Twitter rants, bizarre public behavior and legal troubles have made her a source of mockery and fascination for the media and general public over the past year, but after setting fire to a stranger's driveway in her hometown of Thousand Oaks, Calif., the 27-year-old child star was placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold by police this summer.
Her mother, Lynn Bynes, decided to withdraw her Petition for Conservatorship over her daughter, FOX411 reports, as Bynes is now on a LPS hold, meaning that her doctors now have the power to make her medical and financial decisions for her, giving Lynn more control over her daughter and her estate than she would have had with conservatorship.
Although previous reports claimed that Bynes could remain at UCLA until 2015, the star has just been moved to the rehab facility The Canyons, which has a strong focus on mental health.
"Currently, upon recommendation by the skilled healthcare professionals at UCLA Medical Center, Amanda is receiving specialized treatment in a private facility outside of Los Angeles. Amanda is making great strides towards recovery," a legal representative of Bynes's parents said in a statement to FOX411. "The entire Bynes family would like to ask that they be given some measure of privacy so they can focus on Amanda's health and well-being. The Bynes family would also like to thank all of Amanda's supporters and well-wishers for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
According to an insider, UCLA Medical Center is not the place to receive long-term treatment, and Bynes is "doing really well" while "under the care of one of the best psychiatric doctors in the state." The actress could remain at The Canyons for at least 90 days.
