Woman Punched By CHP Officer Arrested Again

Marlene Pinnock, a 51-year-old homeless black woman who was filmed being repeatedly punched by a California Highway Patrol Officer last year, was arrested and taken to a mental health evaluation Tuesday.

The incident began a little before 2 a.m. when Pinnock was spotted by police walking on the right shoulder of the busy I-10 highway, according to USA Today. She was then reportedly picked up by California Highway Patrol.

Pinnock's arrest reportedly did not involve force, accordingt to NBC Los Angeles. She was transferred to Los Angeles Medical Center after her arrest and was held for 72 hours.

"They made verbal contact with her and she quickly became verbally uncooperative, didn't want to respond to what they told her," explained Sgt. Jose Nunez, a public information officer for LA County Highway Patrol, according to The Los Angeles Times. "As they neared her, it escalated so they needed to take physical control of her."

Pinnock, who settled in court for her previous suit against the CHP for $1.5-million, has reportedly struggled with mental health issues for some time now. The first incident with Pinnock, in which she sued the CHP, lead to the organization adding training to help officers better police the mentally ill.
