High-school football player Kenney Bui died on Monday after suffering head injuries, according to authorities. In just over a week, this is the fourth high school sports related death in the United States.
Seventeen-year-old Bui, a high school senior, was "critically injured" during a game last Friday night. He was immediately rushed for surgery to Harbourview Medical Center. Unfortunately, he passed away on late Monday, according to the Highline Public Schools District.
Bui studied at Technology Engineering and Communications High School, which is one of the three high schools located at the Evergreen campus. Their school's team was playing against Highline High School at the Highline Memorial Stadium when the incident happened, NBC News reported.
"Our deepest condolences go out to Kenney's family and all who knew him," Superintendent Susan Edfield said, New York Daily News reported. "Please join us in keeping them in your thoughts and prayers."
Ngon Bui, the father of the young football player, said that his son played for the team since he was a sophomore. He was hoping he could even play in college.
"I'm so hurt inside my body," Bu said about his son, ABC News reported. "Kenney was a very, very smart kid and good student with good grades. Everything good for him."
