A home owned by a relative of Cleveland Browns quarterback and former Texas A&M star Johnny Manziel caught fire early Wednesday morning. Fire officials, who have involved a K-9 unit, are now investigating the incident. They believe the origin of the blaze to be "suspicious," according to a report from Alex Osiadacz and Lane Luckie of KLTV.
The home, located in Smith County, TX, went up in flames sometime around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. Police received a 911-distress call from a neighbor and arrived on the scene shortly thereafter.
Per Osiadacz and Luckie's report, the home belongs to Manziel's grandfather, Paul Manziel, but had not been occupied for "two days."
Manziel, a first-round pick of the Browns in the 2014 NFL Draft, has had quite the inauspicious beginning to his professional football career. After performing as one of the most exciting prospects in college football for the Aggies, Manziel entered the pre-draft process to immense hype. The Browns, desperate for a franchise signal-caller, scooped up Johnny Football with one of two first-round picks that year.
Unfortunately, Manziel struggled to deal with the bright lights of the professional stage and reportedly partied away his rookie season - a rookie season which culminated in a self-imposed rehab stint.
His second year in the NFL has gotten off to a much better start, though he remains on the bench for the time being.
