It's been a rough couple of months for Rosie O'Donnell and her 18-year-old daughter Chelsea, who went missing back in August. Now, Chelsea has broken her silence for the first time since the incident — and what she has to say about her mother is pretty shocking.
According to Chelsea, Rosie actually kicked her out of the house Aug. 11, just two weeks before her 18th birthday. "She told me to leave and take my dog," Chelsea told the Daily Mail. "Rosie knew I was planning to leave, that's why I think she kicked me out. She asked me to talk about what was going on and I didn't want to. I wasn't planning to go until I turned 18."
At the time, Rosie claimed in a now deleted blog post that Chelsea "lives with a mental illness," but Chelsea is denying this statement, but admitting that she does suffer depression and bad anxiety. "Putting out there that I am mentally ill was really hurtful," she explained. "These were personal things and I didn't want anyone to know them about me. I wouldn't say I'm mentally ill — I would say lots of people struggle with what I have."
As for what she has to say about her mother, she believes she's a big "phony" who is "like two different people" and a "completely different person in public than at home."
"I find her not genuine a lot of the time," continued Chelsea. "She has this public persona; she will put this big smile on her face and try to be funny... whereas when we were home... she would either just be in her room, not engaging with us, or watching documentaries.... Rosie would eat takeout with us, and if there were cookies in the house, she would eat them all. She was always coming into our rooms and asking if we had candy.... I mean, she smokes weed — not around us — but the whole house smells like it."
When Rosie got wind of this bombshell interview, she couldn't believe what she was hearing. "It's heartbreaking on every level," Rosie's rep told Us Weekly.
Chelsea, on the other hand, is currently living with Steven Sheerer, who is the alleged heroin addict who's home Chelsea was found in hours after she went "missing," according to People. Rosie seems to think Sheerer, 25, is keeping her there and forcing her to stay, but Chelsea denies this. "I'm really happy to be here," she said. "And happier than I've been in years."
