Director Joss Whedon crammed an incredible amount of Marvel characters into "Avengers: Age of Ultron," but one god missed the cut. Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently revealed to Digital Spy why his scene in the sequel was cut.
Turns out, it was simply too many cooks in the kitchen.
"I was part of the dream sequence for the character of Thor, and I shot for a day and enjoyed it very much," Hiddleston told Digital Spy. "And then I received a phone call from [Marvel Studios President] Kevin Feige - actually Joss emailed me - but basically Kevin said that in test screenings, audiences had overemphasized Loki's role. They thought that because I was in it, I was controlling Ultron and that it was actually imbalancing people's expectations. So Joss and Kevin were like, 'Let's cut it because it's confusing people.'"
The "Crimson Peak" star shared no hard feelings about the cut and understood the decision after seeing the movie.
"It made sense to me when I saw the film," he said. "Ultron was the bad guy, that was important. And that was why Loki wasn't in it."
The next time Loki appears on screen is still a mystery, although it will most likely be in the upcoming "Thor" film, "Ragnarok." Hiddleston couldn't confirm his participation in another recent interview with ComingSoon.net.
"I don't know," he said. "I think I won't be able to help it if I ever play him again, and I just don't know when that's gonna happen, if that's gonna happen. I would never lose his dimension, but it's so interesting."
"Thor: Ragnarok" is scheduled to hit theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
Hiddleston's next film "Crimson Peak" premieres on Oct. 16.
