Jacksonville Airport Scare: Flights Resume After Two People Arrested For Suspicious Packages

Flights resumed at Jacksonville International Airport on Wednesday after two people were arrested in connection to suspicious packages that caused a five-hour evacuation on Tuesday, USA TODAY reported.

"Other than cancellation of some early morning departures, operations normal at JAX. Please check flight status w/ airline," the Twitter account of the airport posted Wednesday morning.

Around 6 p.m., one package was discovered in a terminal and a second one was located in the parking garage. The airport was immediately evacuated and reopened around 11:00 p.m. after officials investigated the scene.

According to a tweet by Florida news station WSVN TV, a man told authorities at the aiport that he had a bomb. NBC News correspondent Kerry Sanders reported the man's name is Zeljko Causevic.

A spokesman for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said one of the packages "certainly had some destructive nature" and a harmful "device" was recovered. He declined to comment further.

A total of 27 flights were cancelled on Tuesday and seven were cancelled on Wednesday.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has reportedly taken lead into the investigation.
