Kevin Corcoran, Former Disney Child Star, Dies At 66

Kevin Corcoran, former Disney child star and Hollywood producer/director, has passed away at the age of 66, The New York Times reported.

Corcoran, best known for his role as Arliss Coates in the classic film "Old Yeller," lost his battle with colorectal cancer Tuesday at the Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Calif., his wife Laura told The Los Angeles Times.

Born in Santa Monica in 1949, Corcoran was one of seven siblings, Entertainment Weekly reported. The Corcoran family was in the show business, and Corcoran's father worked at MGM as a security guard, where his children would audition for extra roles.

"My folks were very down to earth," Corcoran said in 2000, The NY Times reported. "Some people's families are in the delicatessen business. My family was in the picture business."

His first gig was an uncredited role in "The Glenn Miller Story" at 4 years old, according to IMDB. He started to earn credits for Disney under the nickname "Moochie" for the 1956 TV short "Adventures in Dairyland," which would lead him to more roles in Disney films like "The Shaggy Dog" and "Old Yeller."

In the late 1960s, Corcoran started working behind the camera and went on to produce and direct several TV shows, with the most recent ones including "The Shield" and "Sons of Anarchy."

Corcoran is survived by his wife Laura, sisters Che Keene, Noreen Corcoran and Kerry del Villar, and brother Hugh Corcoran.
