Maryland head coach Randy Edsall will reportedly coach his last game for the Terrapins this Saturday against Ohio State, as multiple reports expect him to be fired following the game, according to Jeff Ermann of Maryland 247 Sports.
The news comes as a surprise, as the Terrapins coach signed a new contract extension in June and looked to be the coach of the program for at least three more seasons. But two consecutive losses and a loss to Bowling Green on Sep. 12 likely has ended Edsall's time in Maryland.
Edsall left UConn after coaching it to the Fiesta Bowl in 2010 and headed to Maryland to turn it into a powerhouse program. The move didn't goes as planned, as Edsall has a 22-33 record in five seasons with Maryland and has lost both of the Terrapins' bowl games during his tenure.
Since joining the program in 2011, Edsall and the Terrapins have gone 0-11 against ranked opponents and 10-23 in the Big Ten Conference. Edsall's best seasons in Maryland were 7-6, and that is likely not what the school was looking for.
After suffering a 28-0 loss to Michigan last week the school has likely had enough. The Terrapins travel to Columbus, Ohio, to face the number one team in the country in Ohio State. Maryland will be heavy underdogs, but it will be interesting to see how Edsall's players react Saturday, as they likely will know it will be his last game coaching them.
