A woman was fatally hit by a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) train on Wednesday morning after trespassing on the tracks, My Fox Boston reported.
The incident occurred at 9:40 a.m. by Train 114, which was traveling from Rockport to North Station, according to MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo.
All of the passengers on the train were transferred to another station as the investigation began by transit police, Pesaturo added. Other lines, including Prides Crossing, Beverly Farms, Manchester, West Gloucester, Gloucester, and Rockport were affected by delays.
"Multiple transit police units responded along with Beverly Police, Fire and EMS," the MBTA said. "... A white female, age unknown, was trespassing on the right of way in the area of South Thissel Street crossing and was struck by an MBTA commuter rail train. The female has been pronounced deceased."
The woman's name was not released and authorities have not commented further.
Last month, the MBTA made headlines after a man was saved by passengers after falling onto the tracks at North Station.
In surveillance footage, a 33-year-old Malden man appeared to walk off the Orange Line platform and fall directly into the tracks. Good samaritans immediately noticed the man's fall and jumped down to rescue him within seconds.
The man told a police officer he had two drinks earlier in the night to celebrate passing the medical boards and did not remember falling on to the tracks. After he was rescued, he was alert and conscious.
Pesaturo added the man was not in danger of a train at the moment, but also noted that there was no way to know when the next one was coming.
He sustained a minor head injury and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.
Earlier in September, MBTA authorities created a new safety campaign telling subway riders to wait for their trains behind a "yellow tactile warning strip" to avoid accidents like this, Pesaturo said.
