People are outraged over a toy pirate ship, according to Inquisitr. The playset, made by Playmobil, comes with a dark-skinned figure that seems to have a slave collar on its neck.
Upon receiving a complaint, the company said that the figure is historical in context. It represents a former slave.
"I spent the weekend putting it together," California mom Ida Lockett said, Inquisitr reported. Her son, age five, received the toy as a gift from his aunt. Lockett was surprised when she was told, in the instructions, to put a shackle around the figure's neck.
"This is deplorable...This cannot be accepted, and it needs to be pulled off the shelf," NAACP President Stephen Webb said.
The figure appears to be wearing no shoes and ragged clothing, according to The Guardian. "It's a racist piece. It's a racist toy," Lockett said. Playmobil has not responded to requests for comment.
