The Texas Longhorns shocked the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday 24-17. The Longhorns defense played a big game holding the formerly No. 10-ranked Sooners offense to just 17 points on Saturday, a season low for Okalhoma.
Texas head coach Charlie Strong's group took it to the Sooners on the ground. The Longhorns rushed 58 times for 313 yards, and only threw 12 passes the entire afternoon. Texas was led by sophmore running back D'Onta Foreman, who rushed for 117 yards on the ground.
Despite the low volume of passes, both Jerrod Heard and Tyrone Swoopes threw for touchdowns against the Sooners defense. Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield had a solid performance throwing for 211 yards with a touchdown, but their offense couldn't produce enough against the Longhorns defense.
This was a huge statement game for the Longhorns and head coach Charlie Strong. The Sooners took their first loss of the season today, and will likely need to bounce back quickly if they want to keep pace with TCU and Baylor in the Big 12 Conference.
