In the aftermath of Kevin McCarthy's decision to pull out from the race for Speaker of the House last week, the spotlight is now on Republican Congressman Paul Ryan to run for the position, according to USA Today.
"Really, I don't have anything more to add or say. Nothing's changed. Right now, I'm just going to catch my flight so I can make it home for dinner" Ryan, a father of three children, told reporters after Friday's House votes, reported The Washington Post.
One of Ryan's aids issued a statement Friday saying that the congressman was not ready to seek the Speaker's position.
The 45-year-old chairman of the Ways and Means Committee remains silent on whether he will accept the position.
Republican Rep. Tom Cole of Oklahoma said on CNN's "State of the Union" that he hoped Ryan would decide to run, and Utah's Rep. Jason Chaffetz said on ABC's "This Week" that Ryan "checks every box" and is "a visionary" who "understands the institution."
South Carolina's Rep. Mick Mulvaney said on CBS' "Face the Nation" that the country "needs" Paul Ryan. "Sometimes you just need to do it, right?" he said, adding that "the party needs" Ryan.
Billionaire Donald Trump told reporters that Ryan is "a very nice person," USA Today noted. "Maybe he's playing one of the great games of all time. It is speaker of the House -- I mean, it's a great position -- but he doesn't seem to want it. But I'll bet you that if it was actually offered to him, he would take it," Trump said.
