During the first half of group stage for the League of Legends World Championships 2015, Cloud 9 had a very strong run, emerging with a score of 3 wins and 0 losses and scoring the first pentakill of the season against Europe's Fnatic, as previously reported in this HNGN article.
Cloud 9 set high expectations for themselves upon entering the second half of group stage Oct. 11. The team's first fight was against Fnatic. The Cinderella story for Cloud 9 started to end during the game against Fnatic, which only lasted for 22-minutes, currently making it the fastest game of this year's Worlds championship.
Fnatic surprised everyone during the picks and bans, when it decided to play ADC Kennen and with Shen as support. Surprise turned to cheers as the team aggressively went in and mercilessly massacred the enemy champions. Even as Cloud 9 tried to move around the aggression and collect objectives instead, Fnatic just wouldn't let the team breathe. As a result, one Cloud 9 player ended up confused and nervous, making it that much easier for Fnatic to pick them off.
The fast game ended with 26 kills for Fnatic and only eight kills for Cloud 9, Vavel reports.
Fnatic ranked first for Team B, showing everyone that the powerhouse team has finally awoken from its poor first-week performance.
Cloud 9, on the other hand, fought and lost all its remaining games, including the tie breaking match against AHQ, leaving AHQ with the second rank and the last spot at the quarterfinals.
With Cloud 9 gone, the US has lost its chances of moving further into the competition, as all its other teams - Team Solo Mid (TSM) and Counter Logic Gaming (CLG) have also been wiped out, per Kotaku.
