Great White Alcatraz: Great White Shark Caught On Film Preying On A Seal (VIDEO)

Tourists out on Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay area got more than their money's worth when they saw a great white shark attack a seal just a few feet away from the ferry dock of the island. The last recorded shark attack in the San Francisco Bay happened in 1959, when a man was killed, reports the Daily Mail.

Some environmentalists are of the opinion that a strong El Niño is responsible for sending sharks into waters like the San Francisco Bay, reports SF Gate.

The clip, recorded by Meredith Coppolo Shindler, has been viewed more than 160,000 times on YouTube.

In the background, one can gear an excited child screaming, "That's a great white! Holy crud!"

The boy goes on to sing the theme song of the epic movie Jaws, "It's Jaws! It's Jaws!" Finally adding "That's the best thing I've ever seen in my life," reports NBC Bay Area.

"This is the first recorded predation event I know in the San Francisco Bay. It definitely looks like a white shark, about eight to 10 feet from the phone video sent to us," said David McGuire, Director of the San Francisco based shark conservation group Shark Stewards and Research Associate at the California Academy of Sciences, in a statement. "The tourists were pretty excited. For me it's pretty exciting and a sign that the health is returning to the San Francisco Bay ecosystem. We swim in the bay every day at the Dolphin Club without a shark encounter. It's why we call this month 'Sharktober.' The risk of shark attack is extremely low. Over eighty swimmers from the Dolphin Club and South End Rowing Club swam from Alactraz last week, and another race is scheduled for next weekend. It is up to the leadership what to do, but I suspect this shark is well-fed,"
