John Boehner Mocks Obama on the House Floor Shortly Before Shutdown. Did the President Respond?

In a move that showed the animosity between the two men House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, mocked President Barack Obama on the House floor hours before the government shutdown on Monday, according to the Huffington Post.

Prior to the House voting to approve a funding bill that included a one year delay of the Affordable Care Act Boehner took a moment to mock the commander-in-chief, Time reports.

"I didn't come here to shut down the government," Boehner said. "The American people don't want a shutdown, and neither do I."

"I talked to the president earlier tonight: 'I'm not gonna negotiate, I'm not gonna negotiate, I'm not gonna do this,'" Boehner said in a voice mimicking President Obama.

House Republicans cheered Boehner's remarks. While not unheard of there is usually enough mutual respect between the Speaker and the President that while they may attack each other's stances on something they don't resort to mockery, according to the Epoch Times.

President Obama found himself also mocking a fellow lawmaker on Thursday, instead of responding to Boehner the president seized on comments made by Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind. Stutzman, a tea party backed conservative had said that his party needed to get something out of the shutdown, according to Time.

"We're not going to be disrespected," Stutzman told the Washington Examiner. "We have to get something out of this. And I don't know what that even is."

President Obama was speaking at a campaign style event in Maryland on Thursday when he brought up the congressman's comments.

"Think about that," President Obama said. "You have already gotten the opportunity to serve the American people. There's no higher honor than that. You've already gotten the opportunity to help businesses like this one, workers like these. So the American people are in the mood to give you a goodie bag to go with it."
