NFL: Giants' Daniel Fells Won't Lose Foot, Doctors Optimistic, Per Report

It seems there's finally some good news on New York Giants tight end Daniel Fells. While recent reports have been increasingly negative, with Monday's sounding particularly dire, it seems Fells' doctors are now actually "optimistic" that the NFLer will not lose the foot in which the MRSA infection currently plaguing him actually originated.

Dan Graziano of ESPN reported Tuesday evening that doctors treating Fells are now "more optimistic than they were a few days ago" that Fells won't lose the foot. Fells remains in a New York hospital as his doctors fight the staph infection. But the prognosis seems more positive than it did only a few short days ago.

"Sources with knowledge of Fells' situation confirmed to ESPN that he has undergone five surgical procedures, with more scheduled, in an effort to stop the infection from spreading, but that doctors are hopeful his current course of antibiotics can continue to have the positive effect it has had over the past few days."

As was reported by Graziano and others, it wasn't long ago that Fells' doctors were concerned that they may have to amputate the tight end's foot in order to stop the spread of the infection and effectively save his life. To this point, Fells' surgeries have included scraping to remove the infection from the bone. It has resulted in "some bone loss."

The infection has already spread from his foot and up into his tibia.

There is little chance that Fells would be able to resume his NFL career after this ordeal.
