AMC's "The Walking Dead" is a ratings behemoth (usually) and while Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes is the main character, Norman Reedus' Daryl Dixon just might be the true fan favorite. After all, there's an online fan community whose slogan is "If Daryl dies, we riot." That's devotion.
Through five-plus seasons, Maggie and Glenn have been the popular couple while viewers have caught glimpses of what they believed to be romantic seeds planted between Daryl and Beth and Daryl and Carol. Throughout the show's run, viewers have been waiting for Reedus' character to find someone to love. But perhaps fans have been viewing it the wrong way this whole time.
Maybe Daryl Dixon is gay.
"I'm not opposed to it and I'm not running towards it," Reedus told Digital Spy about finding Daryl a love interest. "There was a hint of [him being gay] and I was down with that - whatever they give me, I'm gonna run with and I'm going to tray and kick ass with...I don't get to pick those things, or else I would've had sex with every single cast member on this show already."
It's not as if the LGBT community is completely foreign territory for "The Walking Dead." Ross Marquand's Aaron is gay as is Alanna Masterson's Tara Chambler. Revealing Daryl to be gay would certainly come as a surprise to many fans, but it wouldn't diminish his character or the show in any way. If anything, it would add an entirely new layer to Daryl's character and give showrunner Scott Gimple an additional dimension to explore.
"The Walking Dead" airs on AMC every Sunday night at 9:00 PM ET.
