Dallas Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory is expected to return from a high-ankle sprain after the bye week, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport.
Gregory said that he should be back on the field against the New York Giants after the bye week. "I think it's still kind of early to determine that. I'm doing all the right things off the field to get back on the field, and I think the progress is right on track for what we set it on beginning after the injury," said Gregory, via The Dallas Morning News. "Only time will tell, but I'm ready to get back on the field."
Gregory suffered the high-ankle sprain against the Giants in week one, but the rookie defensive end made an impact in his first game by recording three quarterback pressures against Giants quarterback Eli Manning. The second round draft pick recorded three sacks in the preseason, and defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli is likely anxiously awaiting his young pass rusher's return.
Gregory's return isn't the only major changes coming during the bye for the Cowboys, as they are reportedly going with quarterback Matt Cassel over Brandon Weeden after the bye. The Cowboys likely hope adding Cassel to the offense will end their three-game losing streak. Dallas is also expecting star receiver Dez Bryant to return against the Giants after the bye, but head coach Jason Garret said he wants to see him practice first.
The Cowboys are trying to salvage their season after a crushing defeat to the Patriots this past Sunday 30-6. Dallas seems to be making plenty of changes during their bye week, and they probably hope getting players like Gregory and Bryant back will put them back at the top of the NFC East.
