The Houston Rockets didn't change much of their roster this offseason after losing in the Western Conference Finals but the one major thing they did change was adding Ty Lawson. Houston is hoping that Lawson can propel them further into the playoffs and maybe even to an NBA Championship. Lawson has said he feels that he is the missing piece to getting Houston to the Promised Land and he is reportedly working extremely hard to ensure that he is ready for the season, according to Jenny Dial Creech of the Houston Chronicle.
Creech appeared on "The Koz And Bru Show" and said that Lawson has spent most of his nights at the Rocket's facilities working out which has to be great news for Rocket's fans. Lawson has said all of the right things since he was traded to Houston but to hear that he is actually putting in all of this work is even further proof that he is extremely motivated entering the 2015-16 season.
Lawson is coming off a great year on the court with the Denver Nuggets where he averaged 15.2 points and 9.6 assists per game but he still has a lot to prove in his first year with Houston. Lawson has had his fair share of trouble off the court in recent years including multiple DUI's and a stint in rehab so his first year in Houston will be big to see not only if his focus is fully on basketball, which it seems like it is, but also if he can still produce as the third or fourth option.
Lawson has been the main guy over the past few years with the Nuggets but this year he will be behind James Harden and Dwight Howard at the very least for offensive touches. In an ideal world Lawson will handle the ball more giving Harden more catch and shoot opportunities and he will also knock down three pointers with consistency like he has throughout his career (37 percent career three point shooter.)
Lawson is currently dealing with a back injury after getting kneed in practice but he should be fine. Head coach Kevin McHale still hasn't decided whether Lawson will start or if Patrick Beverley will but either way Lawson will play a huge role for the team. McHale has to like the fact that Lawson seems dedicated to working his tail off to get ready for the season and that should factor into his decision at least a little bit. When on the floor and fully focused Lawson is a game changer and the Rockets look like they will be getting that version of him when the season begins.
