Miss Delaware Teen USA, Melissa King, resigned her crown Tuesday after a porn site released a sex tape that was reportedly shot last summer.
"I would like to confirm to you that the Miss Delaware Teen USA pageant has received a resignation letter from Miss King's attorney," pageant spokeswoman Dara Busch wrote in an e-mail this morning.
The video was posted Monday and starred a woman who reportedly looked and sounded like King. The site confirmed that it was her but when the beauty pageant winner was contacted she admitted she was aware of the video but denied starring in it.
"Absolutely not. It is not," the 18-year-old beauty said. "There are comments saying this, however, it's not comments that are true."
King refused to reveal the name of her lawyer, but USA Today reported pageant officials said her lawyer was J. Gregory Hannigan of Hagerstown, Md. The tabloid reportedly sent emails on Monday asking him to comment on the current turn of events, but he didn't respond.
This is not the first time the pageant organized by the New York-based Miss Universe Organization has had trouble with a Delaware contestant. In 2005, Sheena Bento, who also won the title was found guilty of drunken driving in 2004. However, she was allowed to keep the title. Sex scandals have long been associated with beauty pageants. Back in 1984, Vanessa Williams gave up her Miss America title after nude pictures of her were released.
The video that's uploaded by the porn site is over five minutes long and begins with a woman's interview on a hotel bed. However, when the male interviewer asks her when she turned 18, she said a few months ago in March.
According to King's video, she is currently 18 years old and her birthday is also in March. The interviewer goes on to ask many questions revealing that the 18-year old had also taken part in beauty pageants and was doing her first adult video for money.
