Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk announced a new autopilot feature that will be available on Tesla's Model S luxury sedan. The feature will be activated via a software update on the sedans, which the company plans to start Thursday.
With the new feature, the cars can steer on a highway, change lanes, adjust speed and scan for a parking space, as well as parallel park using radars, sensors, mounted cameras and voice command.
"Today's update increases the driver's confidence behind the wheel with features to help the car avoid hazards and reduce the driver's workload," Tesla said in a statement, according to CNN Money.
The technology is also set to constantly collect data from its human drivers, which the system will use to further improve itself.
"I think this is going to be quite a profound experience for people. It will change people's perception of the future quite drastically," Musk said, Fox News reported.
Musk also said that the next update would include more autonomous features, and in three years Tesla will be capable of building a car "able to take you from point to point, or drive from home to work, without you touching anything," according to Wall Street Journal.
