Best wedding present ever! Newlyweds Brian and Stephanie Tobe received an unexpected wedding gift when U.S. President Barack Obama crashed their ceremony at the Torrey Pines golf course in San Diego Sunday.
The couple knew that Obama had planned to finish up his game right before their ceremony was set to begin, but as the ceremony was scheduled to begin, the couple was told that Obama was still getting his game on, according to ABC News.
So, why not take the opportunity, right?
"Our photographers, they had earpieces in, talking to each other," Stephanie told ABC News. "So one photographer, Erin, she was down talking on the lawn and our photographer, Jeff, was up with us in the suite. They're talking to each other and saying things, like, 'Oh! This might be the one chance; you've got to go now.'"
Coincidentally, Obama's last hole happened to "fall right in front of the ceremony site - as in, right behind the altar," Jeff and Erin Youngren, who photographed the wedding, wrote on their blog.
"Jeff was with Brian and Stephanie, who were tucked away in their suite in the hotel with their families in preparation for the ceremony," the photographers wrote. "They couldn't go out on their balcony, so they pressed against the window, watching everything unfold below."
The groom and bride, who was "peeking out the window" while getting her makeup done, reportedly jumped at the chance to meet the president, saying, "Once I heard that there might be an opportunity to even just say 'HI,' shake his hand, or even try to take a picture, we darted."
"We ran to the closest elevator, got downstairs, and I picked up my huge dress and I just started running across the lawn to get over to the president," Stephanie told ABC News.
President Obama - who recently celebrated his 23rd wedding anniversary - congratulated the couple on their marriage and reportedly stuck around to shake the hands of about 60 guests who attend the wedding.
"Right when we saw him, Stephanie got to him first," Brian said. "And he said congrats to Stephanie right away. And at that moment he pointed out that my foot was actually on the train or the trail of her wedding dress on the ground and he said, I don't remember his exact words, but he's so relaxed, and he says, nope, nope, you know... you can't step on the wedding dress."
"I think it was our first marriage advice," he added.
