Adam Levine and Maroon 5 surprised seven newlyweds on their wedding day in the "Sugar" music video. He's about to do it again in a new reality TV series for NBC.
The network gave a pilot order to the untitled hour-long project produced by Levine and David Dobkin, who directed the video, according to Variety. The show will feature celebrities surprising fans by unexpectedly showing up at their weddings and other big events.
Levine and his band mates performed pop-up concerts for unsuspecting newlyweds across Los Angeles on Dec. 6 for the music video. Reactions from the couples ranged from total shock to pure joy, usually both occurring within seconds of each other.
"It was an out of body experience," the Maroon 5 frontman said in a statement when the video was released (via Rolling Stone). "I had no idea I would be affected by the overwhelming reactions we received from the couples and guests. Being able to create an unforgettable experience for several people was the highlight of it all."
The pilot episode will feature a wedding-crashers scenario where a world famous recording artist is leading the house band as well as a prominent actor surprising a bachelorette party, according to The Wrap. The celebrities will work with a team of improv experts to give fans an experience they'll never forget.
"The Voice" judge previously developed an event series for NBC set in the 1970s-era music business, but the network chose to table the project, according to Variety.
