The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Premiere Recap: Is Matt a Demon?; Silas Has an Army

So Silas wasted no time in outing himself as the 2,000 year old immortal jerk he is. Here’s a quick recap of “I Know What You Did Last Summer”

--Caroline and Elena Already Have College Issues

You know how Elena and Caroline were just trying to go to college and become normal college students. Yea, that’s out the window. There problems begin when their new roommate Megan arrives—the roommate they weren’t expecting to have because they thought the room was strictly for them. Things get even worse when Caroline begins snooping around Megan’s stuff to find out more about their unwanted guest. Trying to be cool (I don’t know what other word to use) the young Miss Forbes opens the fridge and drinks Megan’s water—which was filled with vervain. Understandably, Caroline is now scared and is convinced that Megan is a hunter. If it wasn’t for Elena the young Miss Forbes would have probably tied up Megan till the vervain ran out of her system and took extreme measures to secure their identity. The girls decide to just act normal instead and what better way to do that than go to a college party. They get to the door of the house but as they’re about to walk in they realize they can’t enter. To make matters worse, Megan is already in the house and with a suspicious look on her face asks why her roommates aren’t coming in. That’s vampire strike No. 2. The girls make up some excuse about waiting for someone and leave. As they’re walking away from the party Elena gets a frantic call from Megan. She’s screaming and running through the house because someone is chasing her. All of a sudden she drops out of the sky behind the girls, dead. Elena pulls back Megan’s hair to reveal vampire bites. The two girls have a big problem. When the police and campus security arrive they attribute the death to suicide. Caroline has stolen Megan’s phone to figure out more clues. What do they find on the phone? A picture of Megan sitting with Elena’s dad.

--Damon and Jeremy, Best Brothers Ever

Damon and Elena have spent all summer being together—if you know what I mean—and know its time for her to pursue higher education. However, before she leaves she has to help Jeremy explain why he’s alive. They come up with a story about him faking his own death. Elena is hesitant to go away because she wants to make sure Jeremy is adjusting to being raised from the dead but Damon assures her everthing is OK. Everything is not OK. On the first day of school Jeremy is talking to his dead girlfriend Bonnie about how she needs to just let him admit that she’s dead. Then Jeremy gets into a fight with two boys in the middle of the hallway which ends in his expulsion. How does Damon find out about Jeremy’s troubles? Katherine. The now human Katherine Pierce is at the Salvatore house and looking to stay a while. She picks up the phone, pretends to be Elena and tells Damon Jeremy’s issues. Luckily for Jeremy, Damon is able to compel the principal to lower the charges to a three-day suspension. Unfortunately, Elena’s brother and boyfriend soon realize they have bigger problems. Silas walks into the bar (this is not at all a joke) as Stefan and greets Damon. He sits and talks with his “brother” but is only there to read Damon’s mind. After getting the information he wants (that Katherine is living at the Salvatore House) he says bye to Damon, pats Jeremy on the back and then heads to Damon’s house. However, when he touches Jeremy, the young Gilbert feels the same chill he felt when Silas killed him the first time. (According to Jeremy hunters have a sort of Silas sense.) Bonnie tells Jeremy that when she died whatever spell she did to lock Silas away must have broken. While Damon and Jer are heading back to the house, Silas is having a chat with Katherine as she bathes. She soon realizes he’s not Stefan when he begins to choke her. She reaches for a shaving blade and is able to slice his face before running downstairs. Jeremy and Damon arrive just in time and Damon instructs Jer to take Katherine somewhere and not tell him. This leaves Silas to give Damon a crash course on why he looks like Stefan and to tell Damon what he did with Stefan. This leads Damon to call Jeremy and explain he’s had a change of heart. Jeremy goes to turn around the car but Katherine—not wanting to be handed over to a mind-reading psychopath—takes the wheel and the car crashes into a telehphone pole. She is able to escape from the wreckage although she’s pretty beaten up. However, Jeremy is on the precipice of death. Damon is able to get to him in time, feed him vampire blood and hold him until he comes back to life. Oh and the most important thing of all—he’s not allowed to tell Elena anything.

In other TVD news Silas first revealed himself to Sherriff Forbes. She unwillingly allows him to cut her rist and drip blood into a cup so he can drink it. He’s not really into the whole drinking from the neck thing (apparently he’s too good for it). At the end of the episode Silas forces a whole town square to fall under his command. To further prove how serious he is he kills, Bonnie’s father (as she watches helplessly), right in front of all the towns people. Next, they are forced to do whatever he wants. And what he wants is for them to find Katherine.

As for Matt? He spent the summer traveling the world with Rebekah and they even had a threesome with a girl named Nadia. Rebekah has left Mystic Falls but, for some reason, Nadia is in Mystic Falls. She lures Matt into an alley where we learn that after the threesome she stole from Rebekah and Matt. Before the conversation continues, an associate of Nadia creeps up behind Matt and grabs his head. Matt’s eyes turn pitch black and he passes out.

Stefan continues on his merry-go-round of drowing. He hallucinates that Damon is telling him to turn the emotional swith off so that he is no longer in agony. However, right before he does he pitcure Elena telling him to hold on and not let go of his humanity. Coincidentaly, or probably not, Elena tells Caroline while at Whitmore that she feels that something is wrong with the Stefan situation and not that he's simply away traveling.
