Back in 1989, "Back to the Future Part II" predicted that the Cubs would win the 2015 World Series, reported CNN News.
The Chicago Cubs have not won the World Series in more than 100 years, according to the Huffington Post. In 1908 the Chicago Cubs beat the Detroit Tigers in the series.
If the Cubs win the National League Championship Series, then they will have a shot at winning the World Series too.
Bob Gale, co-screenwriter of "Back to the Future," was not a Cubs fan. He was born and bred a Cardinals fan, according to the Daily Herald. He intended the prediction to be a joke.
"Whether the Cubs make it or the Cubs don't make it, the joke will still be funny," Gale said. "And if the Cubs do make it, then I'm a visionary."
In the sequel to the iconic film "Back to the Future," Michael J. Fox's character, Marty McFly, travels to the year 2015 in a Delorean time machine and reads about the Chicago Cubs beating Miami to win the World Series, The Daily Herald noted.
"Being a baseball fan, I thought, 'OK, let's come up with one of the most unlikely scenarios we can think of," Gale said about writing the screenplay with Chicagoan Robert Zemeckis. "Back in the day, seeing the movie with an audience, that always got a laugh."
Chicago Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta said the blockbuster movie's prediction was "crazy, to say the least," reported The Daily Herald.
"So we'll do our best to make sure that happens," Arrieta said.
Baseball fans can watch the first game of the National League Championship Series this Saturday. The Cubs will play the Mets at Citi Field in New York City at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 17.
