A toddler and a 5-year-old girl were gang- aped and left bleeding in two separate incidents in the Indian capital of Delhi, sparking outrage across the country.
The toddler, 2-and-a-half, was abducted Friday night and brutally raped by two people. She was found bleeding at a park Saturday morning, reported India Today. A 5-year-old girl, in second case, was raped by three men in an East Delhi slum Friday night.
Both victims are undergoing treatment and recovering at separate hospitals in the Indian capital. Delhi police arrested two juveniles Saturday night in connection with the gang rape of the 2-and-a-half-year-old girl.
"More than 15 teams were formed in this case and around 250 locals were questioned throughout the night, after which the police zeroed in on a few and later the accused juveniles were apprehended," senior police officer Dependra Pathak said, according to First Post.
Chief minister Arvind Kerjriwal blamed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi police for the gang-rapes.
"Repeated rape of minors is shameful and worrying. Delhi Police has completely failed to provide safety. What are PM (Narendra Modi) and his LG doing?" he asked, according to Newsx.
Delhi Women Commission chief Swati Maliwal condemned the horrifying incidents, expressing concern over the rising cases of rapes of minors in the national capital.
"In last seven days, this is third such case. I don't get this, what is going on in Delhi, what sort of ghastly people are these? I have met the victim she has been bitten all over her body, and she was left porously bleeding in the park," she said, ANI reported.
Delhi, often termed as the rape capital of India due to high rate of crime against women, has been facing an alarming rise in cases of rapes of minor girls.
