Lamar Odom UPDATE: Making 'Great Progress,' Taken Off Ventilator, But Several Organs Still Unresponsive

Lamar Odom's condition is miraculously improving ever since he regained consciousness Friday after three days in a coma.

A source told People Sunday that he still "is in the ICU" and that he "sleeps alot." "Lamar today again has had moments when he is awake and more responsive," the source said. "He is not talking but seems to understand when Khloé and the medical staff speak to him. He will have another head MRI in the next few days to check for any damage that could have been caused by the strokes."

The 35-year-old former NBA star has passed a swallow test as of Saturday, meaning he was able to swallow on his own, according to E! News. Passing the swallow test is a huge deal, as this is a big sign of neurological function since they had to remove his breathing tube in order for him to do so.

On top of this, he was also helped out of bed for the first time ever since he arrived at the hospital Tuesday night. While he did need complete assistance to be moved into a chair, his breathing remained in tact and showed "no signs of distress."

"This is great progress," a source said. "But there is always the possibility for setbacks."

He is still wearing an oxygen mask but has been taken off the ventilator and is breathing completely on his own, a hospital witness told TMZ. He has also responded to doctors physically and verbally, and his heart continues to be okay. The physical and verbal responses are mainly hand signals, as in thumbs up or thumbs down, and the verbal responses are mostly mumbles, but it's still improvement in the right direction.

While this is all incredible news, there are still some major medical issues, as several of his organs are still not responding, but the source did say "this is the best 24 hours he has had so far."

"He's doing much better today," another source told Us Weekly Saturday. Overall, he is definitely improving, and in no way is that ever a bad thing, but a lot still remains unknown on his condition. "The truth is, the doctors are still figuring out a lot right now," the source added.

Odom was hospitalized Tuesday evening after being found unconscious in a brothel in Nevada following a weekend of partying with several drugs, including a very dangerous mix of herbal Viagra and cocaine.
