He’s Back!!!
Derrick Rose returned to NBA action Saturday Night and although there was some obvious rust, fans got a lot of good signs that their star player is getting back to MVP form.
The first sign came in the first quarter as Rose drove in the lane, took it to the chest of Roy Hibbert and after missing the lay-up was able to get his offensive rebound and put the ball in.
In the second quarter with a little under eight minutes left, it seemed his legs were warmed up as he took a pass from Krik Hinrich in transition, beat the Indiana Pacers defense and finished the reverse layup. A couple minutes later he dribbled from one end of the court, raced to the other end of the floor and finished between the Pacers’ David West and George Hill. Rose’s night was probably highlighted by a breakaway two-handed dunk after a turnover by the Pacers.
It was apparent that Rose has some kinks to work out after he attempted a crossover early in the game but tripped and fell. In addition he and Hill bumped knees during the game but the aforementioned breakaway dunk, which came later, proved there was possibly little to no ill effects.
Rose finished the night with 13 points going 5-for-12 from the field in 20 minutes. He added three assists.
"I've been preparing myself for this moment for a year and a half now," Rose said postgame according to ESPNChicago.com. "So just getting prepared for this and continue to go out there and know how blessed I am to be stepping back on the court again, especially with these guys that dedicated their whole summer to trying to make this team better.”
The Chicago Bulls’ next game will take place on Monday, Oct. 8 at the Memphis Grizzlies.
