Apple will not be able to release any iPad mini 2 with Retina for October due to shortage of the high-resolution screens, according to sources from the supply chain.
This may be bad news for the iPad maker as it won’t be able to make it on the holiday shopping season and compete with Google and Amazon who are both launching their own new tablets, Google Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HDX respectively. They may not be as popular as the iPad mini but may be the public’s choice for the holiday in the absence of the new iPad mini.
Reuters report said that if Apple will push through with the October release for the much-anticipated iPad mini with Retina display, it will not have enough units. The second-gen iPad mini will have thinner and lighter dimensions as part of the modifications. Other than that, the sources are unsure of there will be other changes.
Apple refused to comment about the launch and its suppliers refused to give details as well for confidentiality.
Rumors about Apple making iPad mini 2 with Retina has been circulating online but the Cupertino-based company never confirmed it. AnandTech previously suggested that it is quite impossible for the iPad mini 2 to have Retina because it requires stronger battery and processor which the iPad mini can’t accommodate due to its thinness and lightness.
The IBTimes reported though that Apple might proceed with the October launch of the iPad mini 2 “without Retina.” It will come with better specs though and possibly a Touch ID with a price that is less than $300. The price tag may attract those who would want to have own an Apple product without breaking the bank.
Let us wait and see if Apple will unveil an iPad mini 2 with or without Retina display on its Oct. 22 event.
