Prince William will deliver an important speech on Chinese state media as Chinese President Xi Jinping arrives for a state visit in the U.K. His speech will focus on the threat to endangered animals posed by the trade in illegal wildlife products, most especially the ivory trade, which is alleged to have caused the death of thousands of elephants in recent years, according to The Telegraph.
The Duke of Cambridge will be giving his speech in a special edition of "Let's Talk," a prolific Chinese current affairs talk show on CCTV1, a state-owned television network. The Duke's speech is expected to be watched by about 100 million Chinese people.
For the Chinese president's part, the country has already imposed a one-year ban on the import of ivory back in February. However, the country is still alleged to contribute to the poaching problem in Africa, since China is a known consumer of exotic animal products such as ivory for traditional medicine, reported BBC News.
Prince William's involvement in issues revolving around China and its people stands as a stark contrast to his father, Charles, Prince of Wales, who is known to have snubbed the Chinese to make a point about alleged human rights abuses in Tibet.
For the Duke of Cambridge, however, it seems like he believes that an open mind that is willing to engage and listen is a more effective way to bring about real change in the Communist nation.
