San Diego Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen racked up over 150-yards receiving against the Green Bay Packers this weekend. In and of itself, this is a very good, if not particularly great day for an NFL wide receiver, especially in this day and age of gawdy fantasy football numbers and elite passing offenses. But when those receiving totals are amassed during the first half of a game, they suddenly appear all the more stunning. Allen, who finished the game with 157 yards on 14 receptions, actually left in the third quarter with a hip injury, otherwise he likely would have easily eclipsed the 200-yard receiving mark with quarterback Philip Rivers playing like a man possessed against the vaunted Packers pass defense. The good news for Chargers fans and Allen fantasy owners is that it sounds like Allen's hip injury won't sideline him for long. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday that Allen does not believe his injury to be serious. The Bolts pass catcher is set for an MRI on what is being deemed a hip flexor injury on Monday.
Allen, now in his third year out of Cal, already has 601 receiving yards through six games this season. He's become Rivers' favorite target, as evidenced by the 71 passes - for 53 receptions - that the longtime San Diego signal-caller has tossed Allen already this season. Allen's previous career-high in targets was set in 2014 when Rivers looked his way 121 times. With 10 games left on the Chargers 2015 schedule, Allen is on pace to shatter his career marks in targets, receptions (77) and yards (1,046) assuming his hip injury really is minor and he doesn't miss any time on the field.
