United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will have a surprise visit to Israel and some areas in Palestine this Tuesday on order to promote peace in the regions that are undergoing violence.
The violence between Israel and some regions of Palestine began more than a month ago, but stemmed from decades of conflict, with regards to the holy site located in Jerusalem that is considered holy for both Jews and Muslims. The disturbance eventually reached Arab communities in Jerusalem, then West Bank to Gaza, then Israel. The Palestinian attacks include stabbing and shooting that raised panic all over Israel, according to Time.
Ban requested both parties from Israel and Palestine to halt the bursts of violence and not result to violent confrontation. "Let me be clear: violence will only undermine the legitimate Palestinian aspirations for statehood and the longing of Israelis for security," Ban said, according to CNN.
"I know your hopes for peace have been dashed countless times. You are angry at the continued occupation and expansion of settlements," he said in his video message. "Many of you are disappointed in your leaders and in us, the international community, because of our inability to end this occupation."
"When children are afraid to go to school, when anyone on the street is a potential victim, security is rightly your immediate priority. But walls, checkpoints, harsh responses by the security forces and house demolitions cannot sustain the peace and safety that you need and must have," Ban added, according to the Times of Israel.
The Palestinians says that the ongoing violence is rooted from almost 50 years of Israeli occupation, Washington Times reported.
