The Blue Jays trailed the Kansas City Royals 0-2 in the ALCS heading into last night's Game 3 in Toronto. The MLB's top offense once again showed how it refuses to back down.
Toronto scored nine runs in the first three innings and defeated the Royals 11-8 on Monday night to cut Kansas City's ALCS lead to 2-1. The Blue Jays amassed 11 hits, six walks and 11 RBIs against Johnny Cueto, Kris Medlen and Franklin Morales and then thwarted a ninth inning rally from the Royals.
The Blue Jays did not disappoint in the first ALCS game at Toronto since 1993 and scored the most runs in a home postseason game in franchise history.
Josh Donaldson, Troy Tulowitzki and Ryan Goins each went 2-for-4 with a home run with three RBIs. Starter Marcus Stroman didn't have his best outing, but he got the win after allowing four earned runs on 11 hits and a walk over 6 1/3 innings.
On the other hand, Royals' right-hander Johnny Cueto surrendered eight earned runs on six hits and four walks in just two innings. He was relieved by Kris Medlen, who lasted five innings and gave up two earned runs on three hits and a walk, but at that point his efforts were too late.
The roof at the Rogers Centre had already been blown off during Toronto's six-run third inning during which Tulowitzki and Donaldson each crushed home runs to extend their lead. Check out their blasts below:
Toronto was not at all intimidated by Cueto coming off his masterful performance in Game 5 of the ALDS against the Houston Astros. Cueto retired 18 straight batters in that contest and allowed two earned runs in eight innings of work to advance the Royals to the ALCS. However, on Monday, he retired only six batters before being taking out of the game.
Kansas City managed to score eight runs on 15 hits and a walk, but even that potent offensive performance could not outlast Toronto.
Game 4 will take place today at 4:07 p.m. ET when R.A. Dickey battles Chris Young in hopes of tying the series at 2-2.
