New York Giants tight end Daniel Fells has reportedly been released from the hospital after being treated for a MRSA infection for most of October, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.
On Monday Fells was reportedly going to have his seventh surgery and had two more scheduled, according to ESPN's Lisa Salters. The doctors think they have the infection under control, but future surgeries will be needed to clean out the infected area so it doesn't return.
Earlier this month it was feared that Fells could lose his foot to the infection, but fortunately that is not the case. Fells was released from the hospital Tuesday afternoon and will have an in-home nurse administer medication, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport.
Fells was placed on injured reserve earlier this month, and his NFL career is likely done, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. The 32-year-old tight end has played for four different teams and has 1,334 receiving yards with 12 touchdowns.
Fells' agent Ron Slavin said via ESPN that his client's hospital stay was an emotional "roller coaster" because he wasn't able to spend time with his two children while recovering from so many surgeries. The Giants lost to the Eagles on Monday night, but the good news on Fells' health probably has brought the team's spirit up. Fells' Intsagram page reminds everyone that his future is much bigger than just football.
