After hitting record highs, the number of Apple music listeners has fallen dramatically. Apple Music's three-month free trial has run out, and the number of users using the feature has dropped 40 percent, according to Fortune. The price of the monthly subscription is $9.99.
The number of paid subscribers to Apple Music peaked at 6.5 million on Monday, according to USA Today. But even that was only a fraction of those subscribed, the total - including those who were still participating in the free trial - was 15 million. That number is still 5 million short of Spotify's number of paid subscribers, which totals at about 20 million, according to USA Today.
Apple's drop in numbers correlates almost exactly with a rise in subscribers for Spotify, according to Tech Crunch. The rival music company currently has more than 75 million active subscribers - a mix of paying and non-paying members.
Other music streaming apps like Pandora, SoundCloud and Rhapsody haven't been affected by the falling Apple Music numbers, their rankings staying consistent through it all, according to Tech Crunch.
Maybe paying for the Apple Music service just isn't worth it? Forty percent of its users seem to think not.
This drop in numbers was expected, however, and new users continue to sign up each and every day, according to Forbes. The service is still on track to reach its 100 million goal.
