Derrick Roses’ return to NBA action on Saturday night sparked confidence in the heart of fans. However, there may be some of the Bulls’ faithful wondering if his breakaway dunk or any of the other highlight-reel plays he made had an adverse effect on his leg. According to ESPNChicago, you may be able to breathe a sigh of relief.
"No soreness at all," Rose said. "After the game it felt like I hadn't even played so I guess that's a good sign.
“A good sign” is something Bulls fans have been looking for since the former MVP tore his ACL in the first round of the 2012 playoffs. He missed the entire 2012-2013 year, much to the dismay of fans, and didn’t say he was ready to come back to action until this past summer.
Therefore, when Rose took the floor on Saturday night against the Indiana Pacers, fans were anxious to see how he would perform. Rose dropped a reassuring 13 points and 3 assists in 20 minutes—adding a couple Derrick Rose-esque fast break layups and one breakaway dunk.
Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau was encouraged by what he saw on the court but is still taking his time with his superstar.
"The big thing was looking at his wind," Thibodeau said, according to the Chicago Tribune. "He felt really good. He wanted to play more, which is good.
"It's just step by step. Don't skip any steps. That's all we want him to do."
The Bulls' next preseason game is tonight, 8 p.m. ET at the Memphis Grizzlies.
